Buy the Press You Want
Ok, we're all cynical enough here to say that the press is bought and paid for in the US in a variety of ways (through the companies that own them, through personal or editorial bias, etc.). So why should there be any uproar over the Pentagon paying Iraqi reporters and editors to put stories in their papers that are positive to the US?
Are we shocked, SHOCKED, I say, to find that there is gambling going on in here?

i like the idea of impressing upon new-era iraqi journalism that it's fine and good to plant stories, or pay for good coverage...that's certainly building an american-style democracy a la geo bush--on falsehoods, sleaze, payola and purposeful deceit. so we've taught them about journalism, we've taught them about torture, we've taught them how to handle resentful minorities, we've taught them...hey, this thing has just been an unmitigated success. we're just not getting the good news!!
ps whatever happened to the truth will out?
