A question Senator Larry Craig asked the police officer who arrested him in the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport restroom - showing his US Senator card. The officer was not impressed. Read the full arrest report here.

McCain say it's because he plead guilty to a crime (it doesn't matter what the crime was, any guilty plea should take you out of the Senate). Others are less charitable. I guess the degree of outrage expressed by Republicans depends upon a)whether he or she is up for re-election soon and b)whether the sinner in question is liable to be replaced by a Repub or Dem. I understand that part of the downplaying of David Vitter's dalliance with "working girls" is that Louisiana has a Dem governor who would replace Vitter with a fellow Dem. Since there's virtually no chance that the Idaho Repub gov would replace Larry Craig with a Dem, well, they can throw Craig over the side more easily. Add cynicism and--gasp--political calculation to this unsavory mix.
