What DO You Think of That?

A question Senator Larry Craig asked the police officer who arrested him in the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport restroom - showing his US Senator card. The officer was not impressed. Read the full arrest report here.

And now, watch the scramble to get as far away from Craig as possible. Some, like Sen. McCain say it's because he plead guilty to a crime (it doesn't matter what the crime was, any guilty plea should take you out of the Senate). Others are less charitable. I love watching the far right scramble to disavow one of their own.

I guess the degree of outrage expressed by Republicans depends upon a)whether he or she is up for re-election soon and b)whether the sinner in question is liable to be replaced by a Repub or Dem. I understand that part of the downplaying of David Vitter's dalliance with "working girls" is that Louisiana has a Dem governor who would replace Vitter with a fellow Dem. Since there's virtually no chance that the Idaho Repub gov would replace Larry Craig with a Dem, well, they can throw Craig over the side more easily. Add cynicism and--gasp--political calculation to this unsavory mix.
